Oldham County has several different agencies that provide primary law enforcement response to the residence of the county, with the Sheriff’s Office staff generally focusing on the duties the office is required to perform. However, there are numerous times when circumstances arise requiring additional resources to meet needs of the communities safety. The sheriff’s office provides those needs by responding to any and all calls for service when needed, whether it be collision investigations, assisting in criminal investigations, or responding to any immediate need for service. Equally important, the deputies that provide that assistance need the best equipment and training available to keep them safe in the performance of their duties. Oldham County needs a sheriff that will be committed to the safety of the county, and to the deputies that are putting their lives on the line every day. Tim Wakefield has the experience and knowledge to make that happen. He will work hard to ensure that the sheriff’s office will do its best to fill any gap in law enforcement services that arise, and give the deputies the knowledge and tools they need to keep them safe and efficient while providing those services.
Committed To The Evolution Of Staffing And Training To Meet The Needs Of The Department And Society In Today's Environment
Current events with policing practices are placing many new and unique challenges on law enforcement in our country today. These issues are changing constantly and will continue to evolve over time. Some of these rapid changes are causing good officers to leave law enforcement citing feelings of lack of support from leadership, and or from the communities they serve. New demands are also being put in place causing significant changes in the way officers are to be trained. Now more than ever, the need to recruit and retain quality deputies is paramount. Additionally, these deputies need to be trained to meet these new and rapidly evolving demands. Coupled with this, policies and procedures will need to be constantly reviewed, ensuring that they conform with the needs of both the department, and the community it serves. Oldham County needs a sheriff who has the experience in selecting and training quality employees to meet societies ever changing needs, all while keeping the departments policies and procedures current and relevant. Tim Wakefield has that experience and knowledge. He will partner with the Department of Criminal Justice Training and the Kentucky Sheriff's Association, working hard to prepare the Oldham County Sheriff’s Office to meet the challenges they are facing today, and in the future.
Enhance And Continue Community Assistance And Engagement
The Oldham County Sheriff’s Office has a history of supporting many community programs such the TRIAD Senior Center, Oldham County Day activities with Project Guild, school sports programs, fund raisers for KSA Boys and Girls Ranch, providing assistance to the Oldham County Schools to keep our students and faculty safe, along with many community events such as 5K’s and Triathlons, local festivals and parades, and numerous other events. Many of these services are provided with the help of Special Deputies. It is crucial that the Oldham County Sheriff's Office has a leader who has the experience in providing these services and managing these needs. Tim Wakefield has the knowledge and experience to ensure that this history of community support continues and grows. He is committed to providing a professional work force, and to assist organizers with the planning and preparation required so that these events happen in the safest and most efficient way possible. He also has direct experience and knowledge with supporting the Oldham County Schools in their safety planning and training, and is committed to work with them in any way needed to make our schools, as well as all school events, safe and inviting.
Provide A Seamless Transition Between Current And New Administrations
Anytime there is a change in leadership in an organization, there will be adjustments and growing pains. These adjustments may be many or few, depending on the experience and knowledge possessed by the incoming leader. Oldham County needs a new sheriff with the experience and knowledge to drastically reduce the length of this transition, and assume the responsibilities of the Office immediately. Tim Wakefield’s history as a proven leader, combined with his intimate knowledge of the daily operations of a sheriff’s office, will provide a nearly seamless transition from the current administration to the new, with little to no learning curve.
Management Of Growth And Development
Oldham County is currently, and will always be experiencing change. Our population is increasing every day. Our roads are becoming more crowded. Demands for services are on the increase. Additionally, Oldham County will be transitioning to a new Judicial Center in LaGrange early in the new Sheriff's term. Out of necessity to keep up the demands placed on it with this growth and transition, the Sheriff’s office will also be growing and evolving. Oldham County needs a Sheriff with the knowledge and experience to budget for, plan for, and put in place a workforce and resources necessary to meet these demands, all while managing the growth of the office in a responsible manner. Tim Wakefield is the candidate with that knowledge and experience.
